Is Maithripala Afraid of Thewarapperuma? President Uses MR Tactics To Buy More Time!

It looks as if President Maithripala Sirisena is afraid to arrest Palitha Thewarapperuma - the unruly Parliamentarian of the UNP who wreaked havoc in Agalawaththa, Mathugama, a few days ago.

Despite clear video evidence showing how Thewarapperuma made a PS member kneel in public, President Sirisena has decided to buy more time, without arresting the Parliamentarian whose behaviour was utterly despicable.

Police complaints have already been made in this regard, but no concrete action has so far been taken by Police. The Parliamentarian has only been issued 'summons' by the Magistrate Court to appear before court on March 02.

Today, the President's media team issued a statement saying he instructed the IGP to appoint a special Police team to conduct an 'independent investigation' into the matter.

This is the same old tactic which was used and ( at times) overused by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he wanted to buy time over some controversial incident.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe - who repeatedly claimed that the concept of good governance would be at the core of the new government - is exercising a "silent policy" over the incident involving UNP MP Thewarapperuma.
