Sri Lanka Celebrates 67 Years Of Independence

Sri Lanka celebrates the 67th Independence Day today.

The main event is held at Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Meanwhile, religious programs are to be held around the country also. The main Buddhist religious program is held in Sri Maha Pirivena, Maradana. The main Hindu event is held at Shri Ponnambalawaneswara Kovil in Colombo 13. The main Muslim religious program is held at Maradana Jumma Mosque and Borella All Saints' Church will hold the main Catholic event.

Meanwhile, floral tributes will be offered to the DS Senanayake statue at Independence Square.

President Sirisena has decided to pardon 1000 prisoners who are held in prison for minor offenses, to mark the independence day. Those who are on death row will be allowed visitors today.
