'No-Confidence Motion Against Amaratunga Will Not Be Taken Up' - Anura Kumara

February 12, 2015

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the no-confidence motion against Minister of Public Order and Disaster Management John Amaratunga will not be debated in parliament.

Speaking at a political rally in Hambantota recently, he said that the present parliament is a unique phenomenon where the SLFP has a majority but the UNP is in the government with just over 40 seats. Meanwhile, the SLFP leader was the president of the country. However, he was elected predominantly by the UNP vote, he added.

At this juncture even the SLFP do not want to proceed with the motion, which was signed by 114 MPs. It was just a show of force, Dissanayake said.

Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva in a recent statement to Parliament, said that Minister Amaratunga’s conduct in connection with recent incidents which occurred in several local government authorities have proven that the latter has failed in performing his duties.
