JHU Undecided On General Election: UNP Calls For Alliance

February 12, 2015

National Organizer of Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe told that the JHU has still not decided their stance on the upcoming General Election.

When contacted by Asian Mirror, the JHU National Organizer said that the party is yet to decide whether to compete independently or to support any other party during the General Election.

He asserted that even though the JHU decided to support common candidate Maithripala Sirisena during the Presidential Election, they are still a part of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

However, he added that the JHU Central Committee is holding discussions regarding the matter and that the party’s decision will be announced in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, he also mentioned that the party has three possible stances it could take during the election. “We could compete as an independent party, we could remain with the UPFA or we could support the UNP” he said.

Warnasinghe maintained that the United National Party (UNP) invited the JHU to join them and form an alliance to compete in the General Election, but the two parties have still not come to an agreement over the matter.
