Magistrate Orders Authorities To Transfer Shashi Weerawansa To Prison Hospital

February 24, 2015

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya ordered prison authorities to transfer Shashi Weerawansa to the Prison Hospital from Neville Fernando Hospital in Malabe where she is presently undergoing treatment.

However the lawyers of the former minister’s wife requested the magistrate to send her to Colombo General Hospital on the grounds that she was undergoing treatments for a heart trouble.

Colombo Chief Magistrate then instructed the authorities to admit her to the prison hospital first and obtain a report from the Chief Medical Officer on her health condition.

The magistrate said that a final decision on the matter should be taken after examining the Chief Medical Officer’s report.

Shashi Weewawansa was arrested at the private hospital in Malambe over the charges of obtaining a diplomatic passport in an illegal manner, after providing forged documents.

She was alleged to have obtained diplomatic and general passports by submitting birth certificate with forged names and dates of birth. She had applied for a diplomatic passport in 2010 by submitting false personal information which was different to what appears in her previous normal passport that expired on May 24, 2009.
