"Gunaratnam Will Not Surrender" - FLSP

February 26, 2015

Politburo member of Frontline Socialist Party Pubudu Jayagoda said that FLSP leader Kumar Gunarathnam would not surrender to the authorities.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration previously called on Gunaratnam to surrender since his stay was "unlawful" due to expiration of visa.

Jayagoda said that although they submitted an application to get Sri Lankan citizenship for Gunarathnam, they did not receive any response from the authorities yet.

“Since this is an issue that should be resolved by the ministry, comrade Gunarathnam won’t surrender to the Immigration and Emigration Department.” Jayagoda added.

Kumar Gunarathnam who arrived in Sri Lanka prior to the presidential election, is a resident of Australia under the name Noel Mudalige. His tourist visa has expired on January 31 and he was accused of taking part in political activities to promote the presidential candidate of his party, thereby violating the terms of his visa
