'People Voted For System Change' - Ranil

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that people gave a message on January 8 that they need not a change of an individual or a party but of the system. He further asked the people to give the support to turn the parliament in to one government, without party differences.

Speaking at a meeting of UNP members in Badulla yesterday, he added that people will not forgive anyone who works towards bringing back the ‘Rajapaksa regime.’

Wickremesinge also said that the new government has reduced the prices of essential goods and increased salaries, which were tasks that many thought impossible. The government was making them possible with the support of many parties, he added. SLFP under the leadership of Maithripala Sirisena, UNP under his leadership and several other parties were involved in this while the TNA and the JVP were supportive while being in the opposition. Wickremesinghe urged the members of the SLFP to support the government’s program.

He further said that the unemployment issue was the main concern in the country at present and there was the need to improve people’s income. He said that in the forthcoming election people will be given a chance to select the representatives who could fulfill this task the best. He urged people to vote the thieves out and elect the best people, from whichever party. Thereafter the whole parliament will be turned into one government geared towards solving people’s problems, he said.
