British PM Expresses Hope In President Sirisena's Efforts

Prime Minister of Britain David Cameron told BBC that he was hopeful of the comitment of President Maithripala Sirisena on reform, reconciliation and bringing Sri Lanka together. He said that as a traditional friend of Sri Lanka, Britain will support President Sirisena's efforts.

He made these comments after meeting with President Sirisena at the Prime Minister's Office.

Cameron said that he wants to see more of the steps that have been announced on the announced changes such as demilitarization, handing over the lands in the North to the owners. He added that there have been some positive steps in resettlement which is a good sign.

'What Britain wants to see is a record of action, not a record of words' Cameron added.

He added that Sri Lanka is a country with a lot of potential but has suffered due to conflict. Everyone should come together and reconcile, he added, stating that Britain will support Sri Lanka along this path.
