UPFA MPs Lodge Complaint Against Central Bank Governor

UPFA parliamentarians Mahinda Amaraweera and Jagath Pushpakumara lodged a complaint at Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption against the Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran over the controversial Treasury bonds issue.

The controversy began when allegations were made against a company which was involved in this transaction.

It was alleged that this company has connections to the son-in-law of Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.

President Maithripala Sirisena decided to appoint a Presidential Commission to investigate the matter. The Prime Minister's Office announced the appointment of a three member commission headed by Gamini Pitipana yesterday.

Meanwhile Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran left the island for Singapore amidst the controversy. When contacted by 'Asian Mirror' yesterday, a Central Bank spokesperson could not confirm the date of Mahendran's return.
