President Refutes War Crimes Allegations In 'No Fire Zone'

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (11) refuted war crimes allegations against Sri Lanka Army portrayed in the film 'No Fire Zone' directed by Callum Macrae

In an interview with BBC Sandeshaya in London, the president said that he had doubts on sources used by Channel 4 to produce ‘No Fire Zone.’

Furthermore, the president said that he could not say if the government can allow the screening of the film in Sri Lanka.

“I haven’t seen the movie yet. Therefore I don’t have a knowledge about contents of it. But I hope to watch it and after that I can reveal my opinions on the movie” he said.

“Every citizen of Sri Lanka should have a fair chance to express their opinion on topics such as war crimes and constitutional amendments. That is what I believe” president Sirisena added.

The controversial movie alleges that war crimes did take place during the latter stages of the war against the LTTE terrorists.

Its Sinhalese dubbed and subtitled copy was first screened in a committee room in British Parliament recently.

Director of ‘No fire Zone’ Callum Macrae recently urged President Maithripala Sirisena not to block the screening of the Sinhalese dubbed copy in Sri Lanka.
