Harsha Says Government Launched Probe On Treasury Bond Issue In 'Good Faith'

Deputy Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva stated that the government set in motion the investigation on the controversial Treasury bond issue in 'good faith.'

Releasing a statement on his Facebook page a short while ago, Dr. de Silva pointed out that the Prime Minister, in consultation with the President, appointed a three member independent committee to investigate into the allegations of insider dealings in the Treasury bond issue.

He added that "the committee has been given wide ranging powers to obtain information from any and all relevant parties and going back to 1 January 2012." Furthermore, he stated that the "necessary technical support to analyze complex financial market transactions has also been provided."

The Deputy Minister pointed out that good governance involves due process and it should apply to all concerned. "Let us wait for the findings of the committee to determine what course of action need to be taken if any person or persons were to be found guilty to committing an offence" he added.
