The Supreme Court on today issued a notice to Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and other respondents with respect to the Fundamental Rights petition filed by former General Secretary of United National Party and former Health Minister Tissa Attanayake. 

 

Attanayake filed the petition on March 6, challenging the cancellation of his party membership by the UNP.

 

The notice was issued when the case was taken up for hearing before Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, Eva Wanasundera and Upali Abeyratne earlier today.

 

Attanayake, who pledged support to then president Mahinda Rajapaksa on December 8, 2014 ahead of the Presidential Election in January was expelled from the party following a decision taken by the its Working Committee on February 9.
