Justice Chandra Ekanayake Appointed Acting CJ

Justice Chandra Ekanayake was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by President Maithripala Sirisena a short while ago at the Presidential Secretariate.
 
The appointment took place shortly after the president's return to the island from Britain.
 
Secretary to the President P.B. Abeykoon was also present in the occasion.
 
Chandra Ekanayake was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2008. She is also a non-resident Justice of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Fiji from 2012.
 
Ekanayake was admitted to the Bar in 1974.
 
Justice Ekanayake has served as Acting CJ even during former president Mahinda Rajapaksa's tenure.
