The Court of Appeal today issued notices on six individuals including Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Secretary to the Treasury, Deputy Secretary to the Treasury and Director General of Customs.

 

Several representatives of the Sri Lanka Vehicle Importers’ Association had petitioned the Appeals Court challenging Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s order to remove the depreciation tax formula and to impose the brand new vehicle taxes when importing vehicles.

 

The petitioners charge that they have been put to difficulty by the sudden increase of the price of hybrid vehicles.

 

The petition will be taken up on March 24.
