Gunasekera was a former correspondent at AFP and the founding editor of Lanka Business Online at Vanguard Management Services. Prior to that, she was the Deputy Business Editor at Sunday Times.

Police officer, who was at the scene of crime said, “it might be a robbery gone wrong.” According to Police, she had been murdered while the members of her family were at church. Gunasekera had been stabbed to death and there were cutting wounds on her neck, police sources told ‘Asian Mirror’.
