Modi Says He Firmly Believes In Cooperative Federalism

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi stated that he is a “firm believer in cooperative federalism.”

Speaking at the Parliament a short while ago, Modi said that by accommodating aspirations of all sections of society, the nation gets strength of every individual. “Diversity can be a source of strength for nations” he added.

Prime Minister Modi said that his priority is to make the states in India stronger. By empowering states, districts and villages, we make our country stronger and stronger, Modi added.

India is devolving more power and more resources to the states, the Indian Prime Minister said, adding that they are making the states formal partners in national decision making processes.

Referring to Sri Lanka, Modi stated that the country now stands at a moment of historic opportunity to win the hearts and heal the wounds across all sections of society.

“Recent elections in Sri Lanka have reflected the collective voice of the nation – the hope for change, reconciliation and unity,” Modi added.

He commended the recent steps Sri Lanka has taken, describing them as “bold and admirable.”

Modi said he was confident that Sri Lanka can achieve a future defined by unity and integrity, peace and harmony, and, opportunity and dignity, for everyone.

He further stated that the path ahead is a choice that Sri Lanka has to make. However, for India, “the unity and integrity of Sri Lanka are paramount,” Modi said.
