'Government Has 104-Days Program' - Anura Kumara

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the government is following a '104 Days Program' instead of a '100 Days Program'.

Speaking recently at a rally in Polonnaruwa, he said that the government, which came to power on January 9, completes its 100 days on April 19. However, it has pledged to dissolve the parliament on April 23.

The additional four days have been added so that the first time members in the current parliament can receive their pensions entitled to a Member of Parliament, he added.

A parliamentarian is entitled to a pension after he or she completes five years as a Member of Parliament. The current parliament met for the first time on April 22, 2010, after the General Election held earlier that month.

Dissanayake said that the politicians calculate correctly when there is an issue concerning them. However, when there is an issue concerning the people, their calculations are mostly wrong, he added.

The JVP leader also pointed out that there were questions about the Cabinet of Ministers appointed by the president. He particularly criticized the appointment of Ravi Karunanayake as Minister of Finance and Akila Viraj Kariyawasam as Minister of Education.
