Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra Killing: AG Requests Trial-At-Bar

The Attorney General’s Department on Wednesday (18) requested Chief Justice K. Sripavan to appoint a Trial-at-Bar for the case on the killing of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

The Attorney General filed indictment against 13 suspects including UPFA MP Duminda Silva in High Court on March 03, on 17 charges including the killing of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, Dharshana Jayathilake, Mohamed Azmy and Manimel Kumaraswamy and inflicting gunshot injuries on Premachandra's bodyguard Rajapurage Gamini and participating in an unlawful assembly.

The incident took place in Mulleriyawa on October 08, 2011, during the local government election.

The 12 others indicted by the Attorney General are: Anura Thushara De Mel, Chandana Jagath Kumara, Chaminda Ravi Jayanath, Lanka Rasanjana, Malaka Sameera, Vidanagamage Amila, Sarath Bandara, Suranga Premalal, Saman Kumara Abeysinghe, Janaka Bandara, Rohana Marasinghe and Nagoda Liyanarachchige Chaminda.

On March 17, Colombo High Court ordered UPFA MP Duminda Silva and 12 other suspects to appear before the court on April 01.
