JVP To Decide On Remaining In NEC

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva told Asian Mirror that the party will come to a decision on Monday (23) whether it will remain as a member of National Executive Council.

This development came after the formation of a national government yesterday.

“The manner in which the national government was formed cannot be accepted. Appointing those accused of various mal-practices as ministers is also wrong.” Silva said.

People who casted their votes for “good governance” did not expect this, he added.

“President has offered minister posts to those who have allegations on corruptions instead of punishing them. What kind of ‘good governance’ can we expect from the government if they are going to continue in this manner?” he questioned.

Silva further said that JVP will question on how Nimal Siripala de Silva can continue his duty as the Opposition Leader after members of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) joined the government as Ministers.

Sri Lanka Freedom Party yesterday joined the government accepting 26 ministerial posts in total, including 11 Cabinet Ministerial Portfolios.

With these SLFP parliamentarians, the number of total ministerial posts in the government reached 77, including 40 Cabinet Ministers.

However the policy statement released by Maithripala Sirisena during the election said that the Cabinet will be limited to 25 and that it will be appointed following a scientific procedure.
