Sarana Gunawardena Released On Bail

UPFA Parliamentarian and former deputy minister Sarana Gunawardena, who was in remand prison over a criminal breach of trust, was released on bail by Attanagalle Magistrate Courts.

Gunawardena, who was the Deputy Minister of Petroleum Industries in the previous government, was released on five sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

Gunawardena was summoned to the CID office on March 12 to record a statement where he was later arrested over charges of criminal breach of trust. He was produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate on the same day, who ordered him be remanded until March 23. On March 23, he was again remanded.

Sarana Gunawardana was charged for breaching an agreement to supply a stock of scrap iron worth Rs. 9.6 million.
