'National Executive Council Is A Junta': Dinesh Gunawardena

Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the National Executive Council established after the new government was formed is nothing but a ‘junta’

Addressing an event in Kandy on Tuesday (31), Gunawardena stated that the National Executive Committee do not have any legal power. However it takes decisions on the country, he pointed out.

“How can we believe that their decisions can do any good for the country? That committee is clearly a junta, nothing else.” he asserted.

Gunawardena also said that the government should announce the schedule for the general election without further delay.

He added that the United National Party MPs who took oath as ministers were ‘experimenting’ on how to run a government.

“It’s true that they have been in opposition for 21 years. But this is not a time for experiments. If they gave a promise to public that after 100 days program there will be a general election they must fulfill that promise,” he stressed.

Gunawardena also commented on the internal issues in Sri Lanka Freedom Party and said it can solve its problems within the party. UNP members should not worry about it, Gunawardena added.
