SLAF Due Millions In Helicopter Rentals During Rajapaksa Campaign

Defence Ministry confirmed that Sri Lanka Air Force has not been paid millions of rupees to be paid as rentals for hiring of helicopters during former president Mahinda Rajapaksa's election campaign, BBC Sandeshaya reported.

Newspaper reports had earlier said that SLAF had not been paid the rent for scores of such helicopter tours including 23 tours ordered by MP Namal Rjapaksa.

A source within SLAF told BBC Sandeshaya on condition of annonymity that the media reports were based on a report compiled by SLAF.

Meanwhile, National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa told BBC Sandeshaya that it was a responsibility of the United People's Freedom Alliance to pay the bills.
