President Calls For UPFA Party Leaders' Meeting

President Maithripala Sirisena called for a special UPFA party leaders' meeting this afternoon to discuss the changes to the electoral system.
 
Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the largest party in the UPFA, decided to accept a mixed electoral system recently. SLFP agreed for a system where 165 MPs are selected from constituencies while the rest are selected in a district and national level proportional representation system.
 
SLFP also said that the 19 th Amendment to the Constitution should be implemented simultaneously with an electoral reform.
 
The meeting of UPFA party leaders is expected to discuss this matter further.
