No-Faith Motions Against Ranil and Ravi: Impeachment Against Maithri! MR's Group's Game-plan Revealed

A group of UPFA Parliamentarian are now on a mission to beleaguer President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe by presenting a series of no-confidence motions against some key members of the government and an impeachment motion against the President.

As the first step of the plan. UPFA Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena said yesterday that the opposition would present a no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake. This is likely to be followed by another no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

A group of UPFA MPs, who are supportive of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, are now conducting discussions with UPFA MPs supporting Maithripala Sirisena with regard to the two no-confidence motions.

As Asian Mirror exclusively revealed yesterday, impeachment motion against President Maithripala Sirisena will prevent him from dissolving Parliament. If the UPFA group manages to get the two no-confidence motions passed in Parliament with a simple majority, the present government will come under pressure to resign.

Against that backdrop, the UPFA group will request President Maithripala Sirisena to form a majority government, without going for an election. At that point, the President will be compelled to allow the UPFA to form a government as he cannot dissolve Parliament due to impeachment motion. The impeachment motion only requires signatures of 75 MPs.

Asian Mirror is now in a position to reveal that several MPs of the UPFA have contacted former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris to seek advice in this regard.
