Police Officer Injured At UGC Protest Undergoes Surgery

The Sub Inspector who was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after being injured during the IUBF protest near University Grants Commission (UGC) underwent emergency surgery this morning, Police Media Unit told Asian Mirror.

The police officer was seriously injured when a stone hurled by protester had hit him on the head.

Protestors of the Inter University Bikkhu Federation and Inter University Students’ Federation clashed with the police at the UGC on Wednesday and forced into the UGC premises. Two police officers, eight monks and a female student were reported injured in the clashes.

The protest started from Fort Railway station and was held against the alleged reduction of university intake of Buddhist monks.
