Opposition Hands Over No-confidence Motion Against PM To Speaker

The no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was handed over to Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena told media.

Several parliamentarians reportedly went to Hambantota last night to hand over the motion.

Gunawardena also said that the no-confidence motion has been signed by 113 MPs. This is a majority of the 225 member parliament.

Meanwhile, political sources said that the government is considering the dissolution of parliament if there were 113 signatures in the no-confidence motion.

The no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister was compiled on several grounds, including his conduct during the Central Bank Treasury Bond issue controversy.
