Supreme Court Upholds Injunction Order Against Arrest Of Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Supreme Court upheld the previous injunction order on arresting Gotabaya Rajapaksa for purported allegations mentioned in his Fundamental Rights petition to court.

His arrest cannot be made by three respondents including the IGP, CID Director and DIG of the FCID regarding the incidents mentioned in his Fundamental Rights petition.

Filing a motion, the Attorney General sought a clarification on the interim order issued against the arrest of Rajapaksa.

Rajapaksa filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition on May 11 challenging the legality of the establishment of FCID. Through the petition, Gotabaya Rajapaksa also sought intervention of the Supreme Court to prevent his imminent arrest pending the conclusion of several purported investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Bribery Commission and FCID.

the Supreme Court on May 13 issued an interim order preventing his arrest until his fundamental rights petition is heard.
