Amunugama Proposes Chamal Rajapaksa As Unifying Factor

Minister of Higher Education and Research Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that Sri Lanka Freedom Party is in need of an individual who can act as a unifying factor and former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa could be the best option for the party.

Speaking at a press conference at SLFP headquarters this morning, Amunugama said that attention has already been given to the possibility of appointing Chamal Rajapaksa to lead the election campaign.

Chamal Rajapaksa is the elder brother of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa. He appeared alongside his brother at the meeting on Wednesday at Medamulana when the younger Rajapaksa announced his candidacy for the upcoming election.

During the past few weeks, Chamal Rajapaksa played a neutral role as required by his office as the Speaker. His official residence was reportedly the venue of the secret discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa last week.
