Constitutional Council Holds Inaugural Meeting

The Constitutional Council established under the 19th Amendment convened for the first time at the Parliamentary complex under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.
 
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Opposition Leader, Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and former MP WDJ Seneviratne attended the meeting.
 
The CC today discussed on independent commissions to be established. The next meeting was scheduled for July 9.
 
Seven members have been appointed to the Constitutional Council. However, the civil society members could not be appointed to the CC during the term of the recently dissolved parliament.
