Jamiyyathul Ulama To Meet Mahanayakes And President To Raise Concerns

The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) today said it would meet the Mahanayakes of Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters to raise concerns over the conduct of the Bodu Bala Sena.

In a statement that was issued in Tamil, the ACJU said today that the BBS has defamed the Muslims of Sri Lanka by misinterpreting Holy Quran mentioning Al-Thakiyya. The ACJU also said the Muslims were saddened by the misinterpretation of Holy Quran.

The ACJU also urged President Mahinda Rajapaksa to take immediate action in this regard.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Mayor of Colombo Azath Salley challenged BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera today for a public debate over the plight of Muslims in Sri Lanka. When contacted by Asian Mirror, a BBS spokesman said his organization had nothing to do with "the likes of Azath Salley".

The BBS General Secretary earlier challenged five cabinet ministers of the government to engage in a public debate with him over alleged discrimination by the government against the majority Sinhalese.
