Upul Jayasuriya To Be Removed As BOI Chairman?

The land for the Horana tyre factory was leased to Nandana Lokuwithanage illegally for a nominal price, Anti Corruption Front Chairman Ulapane Sumangala Thera claimed today.

The ACF added that BOI Chairman Upul Jayasuriya is at risk of losing his position since he was opposed to this deal.

The land was leased on US $ 1 per acre per year, whereas the normal lease would amount to US $ 3850. Therefore, the government incurs a loss of US $ 3849 per acre per year, which amounts to US $ 384,900 for the 100 acres, the ACF said further.

The ACF pointed out that Maithri Gunaratne was yesterday removed from the Lanka Coal Company for not agreeing to pay US $ 10 extra per a ton of coal. The same fate may be awaiting Jayasuriya, it added.
