Railway Trade Unions Temporarily Call Off Strike After Meeting With President’s Secretary

Railway trade unions temporarily called off their strike launched Wednesday (11) after a meeting with President’s Secretary Austin Fernando this evening (12).

The meeting, on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena, was fruitful, resulting a temporary cessation of civil action.

Railway trade unions launched an unannounced yesterday evening severely inconveniencing thousands of commuters.

Talks with the Transport Minister had failed leading to the decision to continue the strike until further notice.
