Gnanasara Thera Found Guilty On All Four Charges: Given 19 Years RI By Court Of Appeal For Contempt Of Court

Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Gnanasara, found guilty on 04 counts in his contempt of court case by the Court of Appeal, was sentenced for 19 years Rigoruos Imprisonment in total to run concurrently in six years.

The Court of Appeal also ordered the Welikada prison authorities to take immediate custody of Gnanasara Thero who is currently at the Ward 5 of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.

The monk, according to the Bodu Bala Sena, was hospitalised for a surgery yesterday.

The Application filed by his lawyers to have his arrest deferred rejected by the Court of Appeal which stated the monk was guilty on all four charges.

Gnanasara Thera was initially convicted for contempt of court  by the Homagama Magistrate last month and was sentenced to a 3 months Rigorous Imprisonment. 
He was later released on bail pending the verdict of the Court of Appeal. 
Gnanasara Thera was prosecuted for threatening missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda's wife, Sandya Ekneligoda, within the Homagama Magistrate's Court premises.​
