The Ministry of Prison Reforms has appointed a senior official to look into the protest staged by a group of female inmates at the Welikada prison, last morning. 

Over 20 female inmates launched a protest on a roof top yesterday demanding authorities to expedite their cases. 

They alleged their cases were being delayed for no apparent reason.

However, a clash broke out between two groups of protesters later in the day, injuring four inmates.
