"No Politics Discussed During President Sirisena's visit To Medamulana Residence This Morning:" MR's Aide

No 'politics' was discussed at the meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the latter's residence in Medamula this morning, a highly placed source close to the former President told Asian Mirror.

The discussion took place afer Sirisena paid last respect to the former President's deceased brother, Chandra Rajapaksa, at the former President's personal residence this morning.

Former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa also welcomed the President and joined in the brief discussion.

"The discussion was largely focused on the former President's brother and several other non-controversial matters. No politics was discussed. That's all I can say for the moment," the former President's aide said.

However, he described the discussion as "warm and congenial".

The President, when he visited the Medamulana residence, was flanked by Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and Finance and Media Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna.

This was the first time Sirisena visited the Medamulana residence of the Rajapaksas after he defected from the previous government in November, 2014.

Chandra Rajapaksa worked as the Private Secretary to the Minister of Ports and Shipping under the Rajapaksa government of which Sirisena was a senior minister.

He died in Tangalle earlier this week, at the age of 70.
