Govt Attempts To Fish Bodu Bala Sena To Counter JHU

November 13, 2014

With the Jathika Hela Urumaya falling out with the government, the United People’s Freedom Alliance, which is on the verge of a crucial presidential election, is now on a mission to draw the support of the Bodu Bala Sena organization.

As the first step in this direction, BBS Leader Kirama Wimalajothi Thera took part in the rally organized by the ‘Jathika Sanvidhana Ekamuthuwa’ (Collective of national organizations), led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

However, speaking to Asian Mirror, BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said the BBS was not a member of the ‘Jathika Sanvidhana Ekamuthuwa’ initiated by Weerawansa.

“The BBS does not have membership of any such organization. And we do not intend to become a member,” the BBS General Secretary asserted in a brief telephone interview with Asian Mirror this morning.

When asked as to why the BBS Leader took part in the meeting organized by Minister Weerawansa, Gnanasara Thera said Wimalajothi Thera took part in the public meeting upon an personal invitation.

“It was a personal decision made by our leader Wimalajothi Thera and he BBS has nothing to do with it” the General Secretary also added.

However,Gnanasara Thera said the BBS has not made any ‘political decision’ so far to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa to counter the Jathika Hela Urumaya.

“If we make a decision to support President Rajapaksa we will certainly inform the media,” Gnanasara Thera added.

However, at a recently held press conference in Colombo, Gnanasara Thera lashed out at Rathana Thera for ‘crippling’ the Sinhala-Buddhist national movement. He also dubbed Rathana Thera as a “demon” for whom he wasted the best period of his youth.

Political sources confirmed Asian Mirror that with the JHU’s exit, the BBS was likely to extend their support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the next Presidential election.
