Army Commander Says No Inquiry Against Brig. Fernando: "Throat-slitting Sign Was To Show Prabha Was Killed By Army"

February 08, 2018

In the wake of the Throat-slitting controversy of the defence attache of the Sri Lankan diplomatic mission in London, Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake had said there was no inquiry against the senior Army officier initiated by the military.

"No Army inquiry against Brigadier Priyanka Fernando, His throat-slitting gesture was to tell the protestors that Terrorist leader Prabakaran whom they were praising during the protest, was killed by Sri Lankan Army, " Lt. General Mahesh Senanayake said, in an interview with Lankadeepa.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issuing a statement two days ago, said the Army would conduct an inquiry into the incident, with immediate effect.

The Defence Attache, who was immediately suspended from service by the Foreign Ministry after the incident, was reinstated yesterday under directives of President Maithripala Sirisena.
