UNP Cabinet Minister Harin Fernando said he would quit politics and "mind his own business" if Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa was not appointed the Presidential candidate of the party.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo, Fernando said Premadasa commanded a majority support within the UNP.

Fernando's remarks come against the backdrop of various statements made by party MPs that Premadasa should be fielded as the Presidential candidate of the party.

However, at the last Parliamentary group meeting, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said a final decision on the candidate would be made after the formation of a new political alliance on August 05.
