SriLankan Airlines Incurs Staggering Loss Of 15 Billion Within Last Nine Months Of 2019

September 16, 2020

The Central Bank revealed that the national carrier SriLankan Airlines has incurred a staggering loss of Rs. 15 billion during the last nine months of 2019.

The airline mainly ran into losses due to the sudden decrease of arrivals in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks in April.

Although the airline has taken measures to bring down operational costs, the impact of the loss of income has still made a crippling effect on the national airline.

A total of 11 airlines reduced flights to Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks. A number of flights were also cancelled due to security concerns.

Passenger handling at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunaike, has reduced by 8.3 % last year.
