1971 hit movie 'Welikathara', is ready to hit Sri Lankan theaters after digital restoration from today onwards.
Groundbreaking 'Welikathara' is maiden cinematic creation of legendary director D. B. Nihalsingha. It marks 237th milestone of Sri Lankan cinema.
The film was shot in Point Pedro and was South Asia's second and Sri Lanka's first to be done in cinemascope. It was a box office success after its first screening on October 27, 1971 and critically well received. The film is about the clash between Goring Mudalali (Joe Abeywickrema) and ASP Randeniya (Gamini Fonseka).
'Welikathara' marked the turning point in the career of many of those who were involved in it. Sri Lankan Presidential Awards named the film as one of the Ten Best Sri Lankan films of all time.
The restoration project is an effort by Four-In-One Institute.
