JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti was appointed as Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises a short while ago.

This decision was taken at the meeting of the COPE held at the Parliamentary Complex.

Minister Rauff Hakeem proposed Handunnetti's name and Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera seconded it.

Handunnetti holds a degree in Business Administration from University of Sri Jayawardenapura. He was a Convener of the Inter University Student Federation during his university days. He was appointed to the Politburo of the party in February 2014.

Handunnetti is also the party’s Financial Secretary.

He has been an MP from October 2000 and was a member of the COPE during the last Parliament.
