High Commissioner W. Sunil De Silva presented his Credentials to President Edgar Lungu of the Republic of Zambia, as the High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Zambia (resident in Pretoria), in a ceremony held at State House, on 3rd November 2016 in the capital Lusaka.
During the ceremony, in a brief speech, the High Commissioner conveyed warm personal greetings from the President of Sri Lanka to the President of Zambia and reiterated on the friendly ties between the two countries.
President Edgar Lungu, in his speech, reaffirmed the support of the government of Zambia to the envoys, in carrying out their official duties. Moreover, he highlighted on the importance of translating bilateral and multilateral interactions between and among nations, into more meaningful political and economic cooperation. Emphasising on the Zambia Sri Lanka relations, President Lungu reiterated on the importance of identifying new avenues of South-South Cooperation in agriculture, tourism, food processing and textile sectors. Further the President commended the giant strides Sri Lanka has made in maintaining peace and in the direction of economic progress and development of the country, over the past several years.
Following the ceremony, the envoys who presented credentials on that day were taken on a tour of State House grounds, by President Edgar Lungu.
