Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe proposed to increase the salaries of the Parliamentarians since according to him the salary is inadequate for an MP to carry out his day to day activities.
Furthermore, MPs who are responsible for an electorate should also be given an allowance of at least Rs 100,000 per month, he argued.
The Prime Minister had made a similar observation several months earlier. Meanwhile, the Cabinet is considering an allowance for the MPs at the moment.
