Police Sergeant Arrested for Aiding and Abetting "Harak Kata's" Escape Attempt

A police sergeant from the Matara Divisional Crimes Investigation Division has been apprehended for his involvement in aiding and abetting the notorious underworld figure, Nadun Chinthaka, also known as "Harak Kata," in an escape bid.

The 36-year-old officer was arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) on Wednesday for allegedly collaborating with Jayasekara Withanage Ruwan Chamara, alias "Midigama Ruwan," who orchestrated the escape attempt.

WhatsApp messages exchanged between the sergeant and "Midigama Ruwan" were uncovered during the investigation.

Additionally, the officer was found to have connections with an individual known as "Sudda," who assisted in providing a motorcycle and a helmet for "Harak Kata's" previous escape attempt in September 2023.

The TID is conducting further inquiries under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). "Harak Kata" and his accomplice, Salindu Malshika, were apprehended in Madagascar in March 2023, after being wanted by Sri Lanka Police for various criminal activities, including murder, robbery, and drug trafficking.
