Government Increases Employees' Provident Fund Interest Rate to 13%: Boost for 2.7 Million Members

 


The government has announced a significant increase in the interest rate for the Employees' Provident Fund, raising it from 9 percent to 13 percent. State Minister of Finance, Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, confirmed the decision during a media briefing.

He highlighted the importance of the fund, which boasts 27 lakh members, and emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing benefits for them.

Siyambalapitiya stated, "For the year 2023, we are prepared to offer a 13 percent interest rate, a substantial increase from the previous 9 percent. This decision reflects our dedication to the well-being of our citizens." He expressed satisfaction in providing this boost, considering it a victory for both the government and the fund's members, ensuring they receive a significant portion of the investment profits.
