Landmark Regulation Introduced to Depoliticize Sports in Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Sports in Sri Lanka has implemented a groundbreaking regulation to depoliticize sports within the country. Signed by Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Harin Fernando, the Regulation No. 1 of 2024, unveiled today (May 03), aims to uphold the principles outlined in the Sports Law Act No.25 of 1973 across the nation's 73 National Sports Associations.
This regulation not only outlines the essential requirements for these associations but also grants the Director General of Sports the authority to intervene as necessary.

Minister Fernando has further bolstered this initiative by appointing an Ombudsman, whose role involves addressing grievances from all sports stakeholders and guiding them towards actions that serve the best interests of Sri Lanka's sporting community.
