SLFP Crisis: Court Extends Injunction Against Maithripala Sirisena

Colombo District Court Judge Sandun Vithana has extended the injunction prohibiting former President Maithripala Sirisena from holding the position of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) until May 29. The injunction, initially issued following a petition by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, has raised significant legal and political concerns.

Kumaratunga's petition alleges that Sirisena's appointment as SLFP Chairman violates the party's constitution. The court has instructed all respondents, including SLFP Chairman Maithripala Sirisena, Senior Deputy Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva, and Deputy Chairman Faizer Mustapha, to submit any objections related to the case by the assigned date.
