Sri Lankan Political Culture Should Be Changed: Danuna Tillekaratne [AUDIO]

Democratic Party Colombo East Organizer Danuna Tillekeratne said that Sri Lankan political culture is in need of serious transformation, adding that the Democratic Party was fighting to realize this goal.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, Tillekeratne said that politicians should be focusing on solving the country’s problems. Instead of this, most politicians are merely bribing people for the votes, he explained. Tillekeratne added that the two major parties have not solved serious issues in this country from independence.

Tillekeratne also said that both the main parties are more or less involved in the same political culture. The Democratic Party, in contrast, fights for a real political change, he said. The party has a vision to change the prevailing political culture and solve the problems of the country, Tillekeratne further pointed out. He also stressed that the Democratic Party does not have any hidden ‘deals’ with any major party.

Furthermore, Tillekeratne said that the Democratic Party has is a party with a discipline. Some members of the party who left it could have done so because they could not accept the party discipline, he said. He added that many other members remain in the party with a firm belief on the successful realization of its objectives.
