Police today arrested six suspects in connection with the abduction of a supporter of UNP Matara District candidate Sagala Ratnayake.

 

Two individuals were pasting posters of Ratanayake, in Diyalape, Akuressa, in the early hours of this morning when six people arrived in a cab and abducted one of them. 

 

The other victim lodged a complaint with Akuressa Police after managing to flee from the captors. The captors also took the three-wheeler in which Ratnayake’s supporters were travelling.

 

Police managed to intercept the vehicle and rescue Ratnayake’s supporter. The six suspects were arrested in the process. They will be produced at the Matara Magistrate’s Court today.
