Gammanpila Sends Letter Of Demand To Hirunika Premachandra

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila announced that he has sent a letter of demand to Western Provincial Council Member Hirunika Premachandra, demanding Rs. 500 million as damages for allegedly making defamatory remarks about him.

Speaking at a press conference today, Gammanpila said that Premachandra had made these allegations at the 'Giraya' political talk show on ITN on July 2.

Gammanpila pointed out that Premachandra alleged that a police complaint had been lodged against him for not marrying a girl after making a promise to do so. She also alleged he was engaged in a scrap iron theft, Gammanpila said.

Furthermore, he said that Premachandra accused him of publishing false details of his election expenses.

Gammanpila rejected all these claims and said that he demands damage for the sake of his political reputation.

He also said that he has sympathy for Premachandra since she has been led astray by another politician.
